THE JMG SIGNATURE SERVICE

JMG are committed to servicing your car to the very highest standards without comprimise on workmanship or parts.

Two out of 4 lift bays at JMG PorscheFor many years JMG have followed the official Porsche factory schedule to the letter. But it has always been in the back of our minds that the official Porsche factory schedule has some short commings.

What we should do is make it perfectly clear that we do not believe that Porsche designed the official Porsche factory service schedule to limit the lifespan of any model of Porsche, to generate additional revenue for the main dealer network, or through neglegence.

When the technical authors at Porsche write the service schedule, they have no way of being certain how quickly some items may wear, what warning signs may present themselves of a component failing, or any number of other variables which effect the future running costs and reliability of your Porsche. At the same time they can not include too many checks and adjustments, otherwise the service costs of that model of Porsche would be prohibatively expensive.

This sometimes can result in checks or adjustments not being included within the service schedule, which if they were included, may of increased the servicing costs by a small fraction, but would have avoided expensive repairs later.

Just one example of this would be the 996 Carrera 2 and Carrera 4 Tiptronic transmissions. As the years pass we have rebuilt many of these and in every case the transmission fluid has been in a very poor state and the tiptronic filter blocked, causing excessive wear within the transmission, sticking solenoids and various other faults. In every case the transmission had not been serviced in at least 48,000 miles or more importantly 4 years. Which is why the JMG signature service includes a Tiptronic service for the Porsche 996 at 48,000 mile or four yearly intervals. The price difference between our standard 48k service for the 996 Carrera 2 and our JMG signature service is about £150, which may seem expensive until you realise that the cost of rebuilding the 996 Tiptronic service can be up to £4000 depending on how extensive the damage is. Not only this, but the JMG-Signature service includes almost double the number of inspection items of the factory schedule, a exterior wash, interior vacuum and a complimentry Mobil-1, 1 Litre top up for you to take away.

On the other hand, just to show that for some Porsche models, there can be service items which are costly and not entirely required. Such as for the Porsche 964 models, where Porsche originally in 1989 specified that the spark plugs should be changed every year/12,000 miles. Which is entirely unessassy, involves removing the exhaust system and I have rarely seen evidence that main dealers or other specialists actually ever change them.

At this point, some people may be saying "Porsche specified the 964 should have spark plugs every year, so maybe they know best!" But, its worth noting that the 993 has an almost identical engine, yet when they released the 993 in 1994 they had dropped the idea of replacing the spark plugs every 12,000 miles, in favour of instead specifying they are changed every 24,000 miles... I rest my case.

So in the case of the 964, the JMG-Signature service, does not include spark plugs. It still enjoys the JMG-XL in depth inspection that all JMG-Signature services enjoy, along with all the other benefits and at a reduced price than the cost would be if we followed the Porsche schedule to the letter.

Note: Due to customer demand, we have now removed the replacement of spark plugs also from our schedule for 964's when following the official Porsche factory schedule also. But the replacement of the plugs is now available as an optional extra on the 964 servicing page!

To make it easier to see just what is included within the price for our factory service schedule and our JMG-Signature service, we have included a comparison table on each and every Porsche model on our fixed price menu servicing price list pages, so that you the customer can see exactly what you get when we service your car with either the factory scheme or the JMG-Signature scheme.

So what do you get with the JMG-Signature Service?

* Porsche factory inspection items - Thats all the items that Porsche specify to inspect or check during any specified service.

* Porsche factory replacement items - Thats all the items that Porsche specify to replace (unless otherwise stated)
